The Battery Safety Campus Germany is the result of a joint initiative by key players in the economic region of Goslar and beyond. These include Allianz für die Region GmbH as the initiator, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (Fiber Optic Sensor Systems department), the district and city of Goslar, Clausthal University of Technology with the Energy Storage Technologies Research Center - EST and the Clausthal Environmental Technology Research Center - CUTEC, Wirtschaftsförderung Region Goslar GmbH and Wolfsburg AG.

The Research Center Energy Storage Technologies - EST bundles Clausthal energy research across disciplines and institutes in the "Sustainable Energy Systems" research field with a focus on energy conversion and energy storage technologies. In the field of batteries, the research aspects of battery reliability and safety, the dynamic behavior of short-term energy storage systems, grid stability through storage systems and sector coupling are addressed, taking into account the cross-cutting issues of cost and life cycle assessment as well as legal and economic boundary conditions.

Fraunhofer HHI develops sensor systems for reliable characterization and early identification of safety-critical battery conditions. In addition, safety concepts such as energy-consuming separation layers, extinguishing systems, gas neutralization filters and emergency shutdown systems based on active and passive components are being developed to application maturity in a controlled environment in order to provide the necessary safety features for critical infrastructures, 2nd life energy storage systems and prototype batteries.

Wirtschaftsförderung Region Goslar GmbH & Co KG, WiReGo for short, has been the business development company for the district of Goslar since 2010. The WiReGo team is your contact for our business, research and technology location.
